  About Jamia Millia Islamia  
 

Jamia Millia Islamia is one of the Central University of India located in Delhi. It was originally established in 1920 at Aligarh, India and later was moved to Delhi. The establishment of Jamia was supported by the Father of Peace, Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi and Rabindranath Tagore who had himself initiated such an effort in Shanti Niketan. It became a Central University by an act of the Indian Parliament in 1988. In Urdu and Arabic, Jamia means University, and Millia means National. Its campus is located in South Delhi. There are no colleges affiliated to the university anywhere else. Jamia Millia Islamia conducts Undergraduate, Postgraduate, M. Phil. and Ph.D. as well as Diploma and Certificate courses. The total number of students in the university is 13,936 of which 6936 are enrolled in undergraduate courses, 2631 in postgraduate, 3369 in M. Phil., Ph. D. and various Diploma/Certificate courses until 2009-2010 admissions. In addition to various faculties, there are twenty centres belongs to different disciplines, with focus on research activities, presenting an important place for all possible co-operations and collaborations beyond the customary rules.
